Fostering: A Lifeline of Love and Trust

At BARC-CT, we believe in the profound power of a loving home—not just to transform a life, but to rebuild the fragile trust that has been broken. Fostering is more than providing shelter; it’s offering a safe haven where rescued animals can heal, rediscover comfort, and experience the gentle care they desperately need. In your home, you’ll plant the seeds of trust and watch them grow into lasting bonds.

The Gift of Time and Space

As a foster, you’ll open your heart and home to an animal in transition. The length of stay varies, but fosters generally fall into two categories:

  • Emergency Fosters – Very short-term placement. In an emergency, the dog’s needs are often unknown and the dog will be kept separate from any pets in the home.
  • Fosters – Indefinite stay, typically the dog’s needs are understood. While we cannot guarantee the length of stay, our team works diligently to find his or her forever family.

Our Commitment to Our Fosters

We deeply appreciate the generosity of our foster families and are committed to supporting you every step of the way. As a BARC-CT foster, you will receive:

  • All necessary medical expenses covered
  • Essential supplies, including food and a crate
  • Ongoing support and open communication

We recognize that our success depends on you, and we value our fosters immensely. That’s why we do not require fosters to attend events or transport their dogs to appointments—those responsibilities are on us. If you have travel plans, just let us know and we’ll arrange care for your foster dog while you’re away. Your role is to provide a safe and loving home, and we’ll take care of the rest.

BARC-CT’s Two-Week Decompression Protocol

To ensure a smooth transition, all of our rescued dogs follow a two-week decompression protocol in their foster homes. This critical adjustment tool helps them feel secure, build trust, and settle into their new environment.
